Renn Fayre Restrictions
*Editor’s Note: Listed below are the restrictions from the Administration for student projects for Renn Fayre this year. *
Structure locations
--Outside structure projects with desire to be on the front lawn will be limited to tree grove, open space near Winch, and open space south of ODB.
--Eliot hall side of front lawn projects need special approval from facilities leadership to preserve space for Commencement event.
Structure Requirements
--Students are encouraged not to build structures that are intended to support people or to be climbed on.
--Structures must be solidly built and should not pose safety hazards.
--Structures should not be made of glass.
--Structures should be at least 50 feet from buildings.
--Structures must not block fire lanes or walkways.
--Structures must not be more than 10 feet tall.
--Any structure that has a walkway or deck that is intended to be walked on or occupied in any manner cannot be higher than 6 feet. Structures that are above 4 feet and intended to be walked on will have a safety rail firmly affixed 48” above the walkway. Including the rail, the structure is to be included in 10 feet max height.
--Structures should be structurally sound. There should not be sharp things poking out of the structure.
--Power needs for structures should be considered when deciding on placement of structures.
--The sponsor of the structure is responsible for fully cleaning up the area after the structure is removed including bolts, boards, garbage, etc.
--Paint used on structures should be water-based tempera paint. It is required that all structures be painted off campus.
--Fire elements and flames may not be used in a structure or project.
--If structures are not executed according to these guidelines and the submitted proposal, they will be removed.
--If it becomes necessary for Facilities to remove a structure, the student’s business account will be billed for staff hours worked and for disposal costs after consultation with the Renn Fayre czars.
Prohibitions
--Structures will not be approved in trees. Structures should not be attached to trees in any way.
--Projects should not incorporate glass, or mirroring material that can break
--Hazardous or flammable materials (chemicals, gasses, dry ice, etc.) cannot be used in construction.
--No sacks of dry concrete mix can be brought to campus for any purpose including mixing and using as weights.
--In order to prevent charges for sprinkler or pipe damage, structures should not be staked in the ground or have any part that penetrates the grass.
--Holes cannot be dug for structure building or inside of structures.
--Vehicles can not be driven on lawns to deliver building materials.
--No live animals can be used in projects.
--No use of mattresses.
