Tree of the Week: The East Lot Pin Oaks

They’re turning red! Fall is here!

As the weeks pass by, take a look at the pin oaks distributed throughout East Parking. These East Coast natives will turn a bright and showy shade of red as the season progresses, and have already begun their transition in these early days of October. Also known as Quercus palustris, swamp oak, or Spanish oak, these hardwoods are unusual among relatives for the radial shape of their growth form: upper branches point upward, central branches point straight outward, and lower branches point toward the ground.
