Double Shot: Papaccino’s

Walkability/Accessibility: [A] Papaccino’s is located just up Woodstock, right next to Safeway. As with the other cafes on Woodstock, it’s very convenient to reach via the 19, with stops just outside.

Pricing: [A+] This is the only place we’ve reviewed where both a latte and chai have been under $5. Lattes start at $4.25, and chai at $4.45. Regular tea is $3.30. With a ham and Swiss English muffin sandwich costing $6.00 and a bagel sandwich costing $6.75, this is, without a doubt, the best value of any shop we’ve reviewed so far, all while maintaining good quality.

Coffee Quality (and option variety): [B] Coffee at Papaccino's is made with a dark roast from Caffe D’Arte, an Italian roaster based in Seattle. It makes a bold and pleasantly bitter cortado, and still makes a light latte. As always, we got a lavender latte, and it was mellow and flavorful with the right balance of sweetness.

Food Quality (and option variety): [A] As with Canyon, Papaccino’s gets an automatic A on food because they have real food, and it’s good. We had a bacon marsant, which was quite similar to the ones that Canyon has. The real showstoppers are the sandwiches: the bacon, egg, and cheese bagel is a classic and a wonderful textural combination. They’re also the only cafe to have a cereal bar, which is a unique touch.

Atmosphere: [A] Papaccino’s has an unmatched atmosphere, reminiscent of waking up to your dad drinking coffee and reading the paper in the living room. The leather armchairs and sign stating “unattended children will be given espresso and a free puppy” really complete the vibe.

Alternative Drinks: [A] All of Papaccino’s teas are sourced from Tao of Tea or Smith Teamaker. They only have two loose-leaf options, but the tea quality is good. Their tea is good and made better by the fact that you can order any size you like for the same price. Their chai options are the most diverse that we’ve had. They mix their chai from two concentrates, Oregon Chai (which they call sweet) and Dragonfly Chai (which they call spicy). We ordered their mix of spicy and sweet and it was pleasantly gingery with a  nice level of sweetness.
