Senate Beat is REDACTED

On Monday, February 3, Senate held its first public of the spring 2025 semester. All publics will be held at 4:00p.m. on Mondays in the Student Union, and they are open for all students to attend.

Student Body President Andee Gude ‘26 began the meeting, saying that this will be “mostly a communications week for us.” Gude reported that, along with Student Body Vice President Lucy Knight-King ‘26, they had met with the Presidential Council on Campus Climate (PCCC) about the college’s response to the changes brought by the Trump presidency. Knight-King confirmed that they have been involved in these communications.

Next, Appointments Committee (AppComm) Co-chair Bella Moore ‘26 announced that AppComm is beginning interviews this week. Moore also reported that she was meeting with the Reunions Committee, and that she was assigned to the outreach subcommittee of the Accessibility Committee. Moore stated that she and Senator Alyssa Daggett ‘27 attended a Title IX work group to discuss how to support the Reed community in light of new Title IX regulations.

Senator Catherine Hoyle ‘25 gave an update on her work on Accessibility, stating that she was tasked with working on digital accessibility for the Senate website. Reporting on the Committee for Accessibility Resources and Disability Services (CARDS), Hoyle announced that they acquired paint for the mural planned for the GCC, and requested students give feedback about their experiences using Moodle with CARDS, directing them to send their views to cards@reed.edu.

Head Treasurer Maya Gutierrez ‘27 announced that Treasury office hours will begin on February 10, and the times can be found in SB Info. Gutierrez also stated that FinComm starts this week.

Senator Ren Raskin ‘27 reported that she is scheduled to meet with Academic Support Services on February 7.

Senator Alyssa Daggett ‘27 confirmed that she met with Title IX with Moore and reiterated the multitude of committees she serves on—HCC, Commons, SCAPP, Legislation, CARDS, Title IX, and Harm Reduction.

Senators Eleanor Davis-Diver ‘26, Karter Stanton ‘26, Sima Fasihi ‘28, and Lina Eid ‘26 reported that they have been in communications this week.

Senator Milo Gardner-Stephens ‘25 reported that he didn’t communicate anything.

Senator Andrew Happy ‘27 stated that he did prep work for AppComm.

Vice Treasurer Yuri Garcia ‘27 gave several updates: she will be meeting later this month with the Visual Resources Center, she is in communication with Reactor Director Jerry Newhouse about accessibility regarding physicals for reactor student workers, and she reported that signator training went well, with the training slides set to go out in SB Info.

Assistant Treasurer Jules Flynn ‘27 followed up on their communications.

After that, Gude reported the meeting adjourned, but they were not quite finished yet. Senate minutes report Gude’s next statements as “REDACTED.” What did they say? We may never know.

Following that mysterious digression, Gude resumed their announcement on the record to herald the return of the MCs after a semester-long hiatus documented in previous issues of the Quest.

This meeting was short and sweet, lasting only ten minutes.
