Senate Beat is Making This a Great One

Student Body President Andee Gude noted that there will be an admissions and financial aid meeting next Wednesday. President Gude met with the Sustainability Committee in both their office as Student Spaces Liaison and Renn Fayre Czar and noted that the Committee is working on inventory in preparation for Renn Fayre.

Head Treasurer Anahi Sanchez Marcial noted that Beer Nation was being granted less than they asked for, and the money they were granted was to ensure a successful Renn Fayre.

Appointment Committee Chair and Senator Lindsay Worrell met with SHARE Director L Mattson, where they discussed the increase in health-focused clubs in Funding Poll this semester. They also talked about SHARE’s recent Sexual Health Week, a new program this year. 

Senator Andrew Happy discussed transitioning his point of contact for Academic Support Services. Additionally, he and Student Body Vice President Jefferson Ratliff met with Health & Counseling Services (HCC) and discussed a variety of topics, including the feasibility of mailing medication, COVID-19 consciousness, and considering P.E. classes the HCC was interested in starting up focusing on “physical, sexual, and mental health.”

Senator Andrew Sakahara reported for Sustainability Committee on the review of Reed’s first participation in the national Sustainability Tracking, Rating and Assessment System (STARS) self-reporting survey, and declared that the report went “better than expected.” Additionally, he reported on Greenboard’s participation in the library’s “couple time[s] a century” review of its subscription to journals and other serial publications that in the future the college would cut subscriptions and attempt to rely more on interlibrary loans.

Senator Lily Garvey reported for the HUM 110 committee that a survey on the HUM experience will be out around the end of the week, and encouraged students to participate.

Senator Meera Balan reported for the AOD committee that she and Senator Bella Moore had met with Director for the Office of Student Engagement Janice Yang and Assistant Dean for Student Rights and Responsibilities Cameron Tanner and that she and Senator Moore are meeting to finalize tabling supplies and prepare an AOD questionnaire.

Senator Caroline Spiggle reported for the Accessibility Committee on early communications with Christy Martin, the new 504 coordinator (a position that ensures compliance with disability nondiscrimination law). Speaking for Student Advocacy, Senator Spiggle clarified that JSU will have challah on Fridays.
