Letter from the Editors: Meet Abby Durrant!

Hello Readers and Reedies!

As we make our way through the slog that is late spring semester, we come bearing news and thanks!

First off, thank you for the continued support this semester. With your help, we were able to fund another full semester of news and entertainment for the Reed community. Without your support, we would not have been able to report on events like the Sports Center Gym collapse, celebrating Lunar New Year in a pandemic, and even this week’s review of the highly anticipated Snyder Cut. Due to community support and funding, we made it through another semester of print issues, and welcomed a new editor to the board for the rest of the semester, Abby Durrant ‘24!

The Editorial Board is so excited to welcome Abby to the team! Abby comes to us as a first year prospective Political Science major, from Grants Pass, Oregon. In the little amount of free time she has, Abby loves caring for her many house plants and knitting. Abby covers Senate in the weekly column Senate Beat and comes to us with years of experience as her high school newspaper’s politics editor. We are excited to have hired her for the remainder of the semester!

Unfortunately, we had to say (a hopefully short) farewell to Elai Kobayashi-Solomon, who needed to take time to rest and recoup. While we miss him dearly, we have hired on Abby to fill his editor position for the remainder of the semester. Because Elai stepped down in the middle of a semester, we began a hiring process. Editors are normally elected and someone will still be elected for Elai’s — and now Abby’s — position at the end of the semester! Keep your eye out for more information on student body elections in the coming weeks.

We also want to thank everyone who has contributed to the Quest! Your submissions, whether a comic or 1000+ words, helped us report on campus events, provide entertainment in a tiring time, and fill those barren blank pages every week. From seeing through smoke to shovelling through snow, our contributors have worked through it all, and we could not be more thankful.

While our print season ends with spring break, we look forward to continuing our reporting work remotely, and posting articles to our website, reedquest.org. We’ve also been improving our social media presence (shoutout to Wani for her excellent Canva skills) so make sure to follow our Instagram and Twitter @reedquest.

It isn’t ideal, but we hope that despite the distance between us, we do our best to connect Reedies near and far. We are proud of the work we’ve accomplished this year and we’re grateful for the opportunity to serve the community. Please reach out to us with questions, concerns, story ideas, or fun facts. Whether by an Instagram DM, a barrage of emails, or a lustful missed connection, we’d love to hear from you!
